Cloud, humidity, wind, and dew checked
Site verified in daylight or by trusted local contact
Family/friend has route and return time
Red light, power bank, water, snacks, warm layer packed
At Site
Avoid road edges, isolated unsafe areas, and resort floodlights
Let eyes dark adapt for 20-30 minutes
Start with easy targets before faint galaxies or nebulae
Log sky condition honestly for future trips
